Gone are the gorgeous pre-rendered scenes of the previous games, replaced with plain, often downright ugly, three-dimensional environments. It's a fine game, and not nearly as bad as they say.The move to 3D has done the game no favours. I had heard through the grapevine that I should stay away from 3, but I did not pay that advice any attention and I am glad I did not. I played through all three of the Syberia games for the first time last year. There's this broken down radioactive amusement park area that is worth the price of admission alone. Syberia 3 was beautiful to look at and it has some really awesome set pieces and story moments. My counterpoint is: Syberia 1 also ends on a cliffhanger, and no one complains about that now! My counterpoint to this is: there are frustrating puzzles in the first two games as well.įinally, the game ends on a total cliffhanger, so I am sure that did not help the reviews much. The puzzles themselves are for the most part fine, though there are a few that can be a tad frustrating. While Syberia 1 and 2 work best with mouse, 3 works best with a controller - but for some puzzles, I did find myself switching temporarily back to mouse for finer control. Kate's actress is great, and the other actors are fine, but there are some actors whose voice doesn't appear to match the character, and some actors were noticeably recast for multiple roles, so that is a partly fair criticism.
I saw complaints about bad voice acting as well. Some of the negative reviews complained that the creators departed from the existing lore too much in the third game. For this reason, the game has a different feel than the first two games, but Syberia 3 was good in its own way. Syberia 2 kind of brought a conclusion to the Syberia story, so creators had to invent a new story for Kate. I think the main reason for Syberia 3's negative reviews was that the game was too different from Syberia 1 and 2.
